Isometric Graph Paper for 3D Drawing
Isometric paper turns a flat sheet into a 3D drawing surface. Its three line directions map to the three axes of a solid object, so anything you draw along the lines automatically looks like it has depth. This guide explains the grid and walks through drawing your first box.

What makes a grid isometric
Three line directions — one vertical and two at 30° from horizontal.
Those directions map to the three axes of a 3D object.
Every triangle on the page is equilateral, so distances stay consistent.
Draw your first box
Draw a vertical line for the nearest edge of the box.
From its top and bottom, follow the two 30° diagonals to form the top and side faces.
Close the shape by repeating the verticals and diagonals on the far side.
What it is good for
Isometric pixel art and game-asset sketches.
Architectural and engineering perspective sketches.
Lego, voxel, and 3D-printed model planning.
Tabletop dungeon maps in isometric perspective.
Frequently asked questions
What angle is isometric graph paper?
The diagonal lines sit at 30° from horizontal, forming a grid of equilateral triangles that represents the three axes of a 3D object.
What is isometric paper used for?
Technical drawing, 3D product and room sketches, mechanical diagrams, and game or pixel-art planning.
Can I print isometric paper free?
Yes. Use the isometric grid in the generator and export a free PDF, SVG, or PNG.
What spacing should I pick?
¼ inch on Letter or 5 mm on A4 are the standard defaults. Use finer spacing for detailed pixel art.
