Dot Grid Paper
Dot grid paper replaces the usual lines with a soft grid of dots — light enough to disappear behind your writing but precise enough to keep everything aligned. It is the standard for bullet journaling, sketching, and minimalist planners. Generate it on A5, A4, or Letter and print or download a vector PDF.
What is dot grid paper?
- A dot grid is a regular array of small dots at every intersection of an imaginary square grid.
- The dot pitch (the distance between dots) is usually 5 mm for journals or ¼ inch for US notebooks.
- Because the dots are tiny, the page looks blank from a distance but still gives you precise structure when you need it.
Common dot pitches
- 5 mm — the bullet-journal standard used in Leuchtturm1917, Rhodia, and most A5 journals.
- ¼ inch (0.25 in) — the US equivalent; nicely sized for handwriting.
- ⅕ inch (0.20 in) — denser; common in some American planners.
- 8 mm — sparser; pairs well with larger handwriting and quick sketches.
What is it good for?
- Bullet journals, planners, and trackers.
- Lettering and brush-pen practice (the dots align letterforms without showing through).
- UX wireframes and quick UI sketches.
- Note-taking when you want structure without the visual noise of full graph paper.
Frequently asked questions
What dot spacing should I pick for a bullet journal?
Most journals — Leuchtturm1917, Rhodia, Scribbles That Matter — use 5 mm dot spacing. That is the default in this generator when you choose A5.
Can I change the dot color and size?
Yes. Pick any dot color from the picker, and adjust the line weight to make the dots smaller or larger.
Will the dot grid show through ink and pencil?
A light gray dot color (around #c8c8c8) usually disappears behind ink and pencil. Pick a darker color if you want the structure to be visible at a glance.
Can I use it for cross-stitch or beading patterns?
Yes — switch to a square grid for cross-stitch (the dots are not always enough). Both styles are one click apart in the generator.
Is it free to print and use commercially?
Yes. The PDFs and SVGs are free for personal and commercial use, with no watermarks.
