A4 Graph Paper
A4 (210 × 297 mm) is the global standard for office and home printing. Generate A4 graph paper with a 5 mm or 1 cm grid, switch to dot or isometric, and print or download a vector PDF.
A4 graph paper dimensions
- A4 is 210 mm wide by 297 mm tall — about 8.27 × 11.69 inches.
- With a standard 10 mm margin, the printable area is roughly 190 × 277 mm.
- On a 5 mm grid that gives you about 38 squares across and 55 down.
- On a 1 cm grid that gives you about 19 squares across and 27 down.
Common A4 grid styles
- 5 mm square — the metric default for school and university work.
- 1 cm square — coarser; ideal for younger students or quick sketches.
- 5 mm dot grid — for bullet journaling and minimal note-taking.
- 5 mm isometric — for technical drawings and 3D sketches.
- 1 mm millimeter paper — for precise scientific or engineering plots.
Printing A4 from a US printer
- Most US printers can print A4, but the paper tray may default to Letter. Set the paper size in both the document and the printer dialog to A4 before printing.
- If only Letter paper is available, the generator can produce a Letter-sized version of the same grid — switch the size in the sidebar and re-print.
Frequently asked questions
What size is A4 paper?
A4 is 210 mm × 297 mm (about 8.27 × 11.69 inches). It is the international ISO standard and used in most countries outside the US and Canada.
What is the standard grid for A4 graph paper?
A 5 mm square grid with a heavier line every centimeter is the most common. 1 cm grids are also widely used in schools.
Can I print A4 on a Letter printer?
Yes, but you may need to load A4 paper into the tray and select A4 in the printer dialog. The generator outputs the page at true A4 size so the grid spacing stays correct.
Can I use landscape A4?
Yes. Switch orientation to Landscape in the generator and the grid will fill a 297 × 210 mm page.
Does the PDF include the full grid edge-to-edge?
It includes whatever you set in the margin controls. Set all margins to 0 if you want the grid to reach the paper edge (note: most printers have a small unprintable border).
